13th Annual “Food Fight” Sets New Record The largest food drive of the year that pits Auburn University and University of Alabama against each keeps getting bigger and bigger, and this year new records were set again. By the time the competition had ended, more than 172,000 pounds had been donated by Auburn University with support from the local community vs. 150,000 pounds in Tuscaloosa. While we are always happy for an opportunity to beat Alabama, we truly understand that the real winners of this competiton are the people who are fed by the donated food. This food drive, the brainchild of West Alabama Food Bank Executive Director Craig Young, has a huge impact on both the West Alabama Food Bank and the Food Bank of East Alabama’s ability to provide food for all their agencies. New this year was a Virtual Food Drive that allowed
out-of-town supporters to donate on-line to support their school.
More than 50,000 pounds of food came to the Food Bank of East Alabama
through this method of support.
